THE HAWAII FIVE-O DVD MENUS PAGE

Don’t ask me why I did this. I think it was inspired by some people with ideas of different ways to organize all the episodes. Well, this is certainly a different way of doing that. I think the stuff I have created about all this below will appeal mainly to marketing types.

In the DVDs found in the box sets for Classic H50, there are main menus with a picture of Jack Lord and behind him there is this thing that looks like a film strip with brief excerpts from shows on that disc, and perhaps shows on the other discs in the same season. (I’m sure someone will prove that these brief excerpts are from other seasons as well.) Trying to make a list of all these excerpts and where they come from would be yet another interesting project, but not for me.

One of the links on the main menu will lead to a list of individual episodes on that disc and when you select one of these shows, the picture on the following page quite likely comes from the show. There also links on these pages to the "episodic promos" (or "episode promos," as I like to call them) where Jack Lord would hype next week's episode ... except on the DVDs, they are combined with the episode they are promoting.

More information about the DVD sets can be found on this page. There are links at the end of the discussion about each season which will bring you right back here! I may eventually incorporate information from that page into the linked pages below.

I thought this was going to be an easy data-entry type project, because some of the DVD sets are very similar in terms in the ways that menus and so forth are organized, but it wasn’t as easy as it looked. For example, the introduction of "episode promos" threw me for a loop (seasons 2 to 10). There are no promos in the first season and none from seasons 10 to 12, because they became redundant. And several episodes in seasons 2 to 10 didn't have promos at all.

There are also differences in the design of the boxes the DVDs come in, as well as the DVD labels.

Trying to keep track of these discrepancies (what should have been easy repetitive work) got to the point where I started to freak out; it was sort of like "trying to screw a fly." I think it is time for me to stop doing stuff like this for my WWW site(s) and just enjoy the rest of my life, LOL.

By the way, you will notice that the vast majority (probably 99%) of the screenshots used in the menus feature the "stars of the show" (i.e., Jack Lord, James MacArthur, Kam Fong, Zulu, Al Harrington, the usual guys). It would have been nice if some of them contained shots of the guest stars instead.
