Park, whose ancestry is Korean ("Asian-American"), plays a Hawaiian on the new Five-Zero (this is nothing new to fans of the show).
Isn't someone else missing here?
by North » Fri May 12, 2017 7:25 amI'm so sick and tired about people who wallow in victim mentality, especially victim by group, race, sex etc.
When I read this kind of claptrap all I want to do is scream at them to get on with your life and stop whining!
Sorry for the rant!
by Mr. Mike » Fri May 12, 2017 12:18 pmThis is story that I have told ad nauseum:
Many years ago I had lunch with James ("Danno") MacArthur. He was making a movie here in Vancouver.
I was curious about why the old show often had white guys playing Asians, since there were several Asian actors who could have played these parts (and did play SOME parts on the show), i.e., James Shigeta, Keye Luke, Yuki Shimoda, etc.
So I asked MacArthur about this. He got VERY annoyed, saying "Ah, that fucking political correctness again!"
I assured him I wasn't trying to make a big issue out of this (he must have not been that mad, because he paid for my lunch).
Anyway, his attitude was, it's just ACTING and there's no reason why a white guy can't play an Asian ... though I think if a white guy tried to play a black guy these days, there would be a huge stink!!
