Jack Lord: Dec. 30, 1920 - Jan. 21, 1998

Jack Lord

Jack Lord passed away on January 21, 1998. Following his "retirement" from Five-O, he lived a Greta Garbo-like existence in a multimillion dollar waterfront condominium in Honolulu. There were unconfirmed reports during his last few years in the tabloid media, often accompanied by out-of-date pictures, which suggested he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. These rumours were denied by his wife Marie and others who knew him. (Click here to see an interview with Marie Lord, reflecting on Jack Lord's later life, taken at the 1999 Five-O convention. This requires QuickTime, available at On the other hand, the general consensus seemed to be that Lord was ill with some medical condition. (See comments by James MacArthur in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.) An interesting theory regarding Lord's health was posted in the newsgroup
