Judith (of Glen Mills), I came across that add you mentioned in a magazine (forgot which one). It featured a guy and a Mercury Marquis made up to look like some scene from H5-0. Just a familiar retro from the 60's that is instantly identifiable to the roving eye. I think they were advertizing the single breasted suite, that's all. The model was awfully skinny! As for Tim (of Honolulu). Hay, man...YOU write the script! Your ideas sound good to me! Your a funny guy! Hope to see more of your works in the form of a novella in some other 5-0 web-site!

Hay, yeh! That's a good idea, Phil (of Chicago). I wouldn't mind watching Tom Selleck play McGarrett...as long as he doesn't wear short pants that shows off his hairy legs and kiss any guy on the lips. Sure, why not. Is that guy who played his boss still around? Make him do the District Attorney part. Now, HE had sex appeal!!

To George Litto and Rose Freeman. I still think "Harrison Ford"should be your first choise,to be the head of Five-O in the motion picture. He is perfect for the part. But he should not be "Steve McGarrett"because it would seem phoney, because there is only one "Steve McGarrett"and it was "Jack Lord".No disrespect to "Harrision Ford" or any other potentail actor sellected for the lead role. The character "Steve McGarrett" should be buried with "Jack Lord"because it just won't seem realistic, for anybody else to be McGarrett. Perhaps a long lost younger brother,or a causin of "McGarrett"would be more believable. That reletive of McGarrett, could have transfered to Five-O from another Law Enforcement agency, such as the DEA,BATF,FBI or even the CIA after retirement from US Gov. service. I'm sure it's done all the time in the real world. Mr. Litto could also have "Harrison Ford continue his role as "Jack Ryan" from his motion picture's "Patriot Games" & "Clear and Presant Danger"now retired from the CIA and the new head of Five-O? That's if the producers of those movies are not planning any more "Tom Clancy"movies and would release the rights to that character to Mr. Litto and Mrs.Freeman. Using Harrision Ford's character (Jack Ryan) to be the new head of Five-O if Harrison Ford is chosen would be more of a believable role. Or Mr. Litto could create a simular type character for Harrison Ford. As for the rest of the Five-O Team. Zulu could again, become the second in command to to Ford's Character, whether it be "Jack Ryan" or a lost reletive of McGarrett? If Harrison Ford is unavailable. Perhaps Tommy Lee Jones,Richard Burgi or even Don Johnson who starred as "James Sonny Crockett" in the former 1980's hit series Miami Vice, and presant TV series "Nash Bridges" could possibly fill the lead role in the new Five-O movie ? But Ford should be first choice. The rest of the team should be an all new cast with at least one female member. Perhaps "Holly Hunter,Anne Archer" V. Conway

I agree with many that believe there shouldn't even be a new movie made - you'll never match the original, and the times have changed - it would never even be close. However, if they insist on making the movie(s), then I say you need to find a man with VALUES like McGarrett. I say use TOM SELLECK. They may be some uneasiness due to thinking that the association with Magnum is too great - but I'm convinced he's the man for the job. He knows Hawaii, we know him and I think he would be the most believable. Anyone agree?

Please, please, please get a new team for the new Five-O movie. I love all the old characters and it would be very difficult to see them recast. The best thing would be to "retire" McGarrett and have Danno move on as the Governor. (and Please cast James MacArthur in the role -- no one else can do it.) I realize the casting I suggest is similar to the pilot that didn't fly, but with the right script, this would work wonderfully well. Thanks for listening.

I don't really care who plays who in the new movie but I feel that George and Rose better get moving on making it happen. The popularity of the Chinese government is at an all time low and we are rapidly approaching the year 2000, if that doesn't make for a good storyline in the spirit of the original 5-0 than I don't know what does. Bring back a Wo Fat who takes advantage of the Y2K bug to test his nuclear weapons on the U.S. These could be made from information provided to him by the spies who have been stealing U.S. secrets for the last 20 years. The writers need to watch Forty Feet High and it Kills before writing the script to get them in the right frame of mind. Also, keep that Baldwin Bozo out of the picture, his values are so far off that casting him in the picture would make it unbelievable.

Why not Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt? Having MacArthur return as Danno would be a double edged sword for fans I think. It'd be great to have him back in the role, but then who would be Steve's Second Guy if they did have a new "Steve"? It'd be a little strange for there to be Steve the head of 5-0 and Danno is now his boss? That might be a treat for MacArthur fans but it'd be weird that he aged and Steve didn't! Decisions, decisions!!

I was watching a Five-O episode that I taped this morning and there was an ad for a magazine called Details. For a few seconds they flashed a two-page picture of what I thought was Jack Lord (circa 1969) standing on a rooftop with Diamond Head in the distance behind him. The only legible text said "Nine to Five-O". When I played the tape back in slow motion, it clearly wasn't Jack Lord. The guy had the same hair and navy suit, but looked very young and had different facial features. I wonder if this is the guy who is going to play McGarrett. Does anyone get this magazine?

I think it's awesome there's a movie coming. I would like to see James MacArthur as Gov. Danny Williams and Richard Burgi (One West Waikiki, The Sentinel) as the head of Five-0.

No movie about past tv shows, or even old moves, are ever the same as when we remembered them. These type of new movies only line the pockets of producers, actors and merchants with our hard earned money, relying on our dreams to relive the past. But, they will make it anyway. I will wait till it runs on TV. However, why not have Danno, as the new head of Five-O, with a picture of Steve hanging in the office in the background. And a plaque on his desk with the words "Book'em Danno." Make the episode about "Wo Fat" junior A visit to Steve's grave site by Danno would be a nice touch. Later

Great site! Hawaii Five-O was/is one of my favorite all-time tv shows. Thankful that local tv shows re-runs. Jack Lord was "The Man"! The synopses are accurate and informative. A must for any HF-O fan!

When I read about the new Hawaii Five-0 movie, I had mixed feelings about it. But, I finally came to a conclusion that making a new Five-0 movie could be a good idea. Many people expressed their concerns about replacing Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett. I know that it won't be easy for an other actor to step in Jack Lord's footsteps. And I agree with those who have already said that no one could play McGarrett the way Jack Lord did. I am a fan of Jack Lord and I will never forget him. In my point of view, a new Five-0 movie cannot be made without the character of McGarrett. Why? Because Hawaii Five-0 and McGarrett are bond together. As a solution, why not having a relative (for example his nephew or cousin)who takes charge of the Hawaii State Police, 20 years later, and build up around him a new Five-0 team. His name, for example, can be Kevin S. McGarrett. Then, it will be possible to set the movie script in the present. Our social concerns have changed a lot since the 70's. And it will be interesting to see the new Five-0 team dealing with computer criminals, street gangs phenomenon, etc. It will gather new generations with elder generations. The spirit of Hawaii Five-0 and values such as integrity, honesty, social and personal responsibility and caring, should be part of the personality of the new Five-0 leader. It will be a nice tribute to Jack Lord's work. Regarding the casting, there is a lot of talented actors, but Mr. Litto should not be afraid to use unknowns if necessary. It would also be nice for some of the original stars to have an appearance in the movie. And of course, James McArthur should get a role in the new movie. I wish all my best to Mr. George Litto and Mrs. Rose Freeman who are going to do a great job, I'm sure of that. Renée Poulin Québec (Québec) Canada

It seems like a sacrilege to make a movie called Hawaii 5-0. No one who watched the TV show all those years will accept anyone but Jack Lord as Steve McGarret No once can stop them from using the name "Hawaii 5-0", but the characters have taken their place in American history and should not be used in the movie. If they are so clever, let them invent some new characters. I hate to think what the script of the movie will be like. If it is anything like the rest of the movies made now, it will be like violating a grave. Of course, with manners like we see nowadays, that wouldn't bother anyone who wants to exploit the popularity of Hawaii 5-0. I guess my vote is against a movie. But if they go ahead with it, find unknown actors to play the main characters if they use the names of our beloved 5-0 people. If they invent new characters, they can do what they want about actors.

First of all, a local cable station in Seattle is about to re-run the entire series from the beginning, if anyone doesn't have the pilot movie "Cocoon". A movie version of the series was inevitable, based on the fact that Hawaii Five-0 was so successful before. My choice for McGarrett would be someone with a cool, understated toughness, such as Michael Madsen. I'd cringe at the idea of a "pretty boy" playing that part. Another person I like, who somebody else mentioned before, is Christopher Walken (which would be cool, since he DID appear in one of the original episodes!). Another person I'd be supported of is Vince Vaughn- who would definitely be taller than everyone else in the office.

I keep hearing Jackie Chan's name banndied about. What about JETT LI? As Wo Fat's son, he'd be a REAL baddie! Why not the actor from "Das Boot" as Steve McGarrett? He's suitably intense...not a pretty sight though.

I agree with the thought that Jack Lord and the orginal cast were the best...I agree with the comments about the Mission Impossible remake listed below and think that would be best for a 5-0 remake. But I would like to Jackie Chan play Wo-Fat's son or something like that...second generation evil!

What an awesome site! I found it while searching for someone else. I am a long time JL / 5-0 fan. Years ago I made sure none of my Girl Scout meetings were on '5-0's night!' As far as the new 5-0 movie, I agree that nobody can replace Jack! He *was* McGarrett. A new team with different names - yes. A new McGarrett - no way!

Made a New Generation of Hawaii Five-0, different names, like Star Trek new generation and new capt. Should apply to Hawaii Five-0. Nobody should use the McGarrett name else it's a lost son or relative.

HHMMM. After reading all the discussion on the five-o flick, I don't know. Like a good little fan, I have voted but now I am not so sure about featuring the original charicters with new actors. I loved Mission Impossible as a movie, but wil NEVER forgive them turning Jim Phelps in to a bad guy, would that happen here I wonder? I am gradually leaning towards having totally new charicters follow in the footsteps of our beloved originals. It is also a great pity that thee is not a chance in seeing the pilot for the doomed new series, as it would be interesting to see why it failed. Anyway, I hope all will go well for the flick and that there will be some excellent writers brought in. We will never be able to recreate the original, but I hope there will be a good chance of creating something new, hard edged, up to date but with total respect for the original Five O. (As usual, an s.o.s for pen pals, prehaps living in Honolulu itself? Thought I would give it a try!) Mahalo! HeatherXXXXXXXXX Heather@22Madhouse.Freeserve.co.uk

I'm ambivalent about the new FIVE-O movie idea. But if it must happen, Christopher Walken is about the best you'll get for the McGarrett role, IMHO. (But I imagine a more "commercial" choice will be made...)

There will NEVER be another Steve McGarrett, Danny Williams or Kono or Chin. This was a one time only cast and show. Leave it to be seen in reruns. Jack Lord was one of a kind. He was McGarrett; let us have our reruns. We are happy with them. The movie would be a flop since all I know would not go see it; we don't want anyone replacing our Hawaii Five-O show or cast.

Great web page. There is a station here in Dallas that shows two episodes a day during the week. I tape them, after watching them I check them off the list that has all the episodes of 5 0. I became a fan of 5 0 way back when I was a freshman in high school and would watch every week. Now that I have been to Honolulu I like to see the changes betweeen then and now.

Alec Baldwin would be a perfect Steve McGarrett, but if they want to cast an older Steve McGarrett, then I think Tommy Lee Jones would be perfect for the part - also Harrison Ford would give him a run for his money. A good young Steve besides Baldwin would be John Travolta. Paul Newman would make an excellent Dano. Let's get Phillip Michael Thomas from Miami Vice or Antonio Banderas to play Ben,and Ricardo Montalban, Sean Connery or Jeremy Irons to play Vashon -- who serves his prison time and is out for revenge!

Great idea for a movie!!The current production values mixed in with the Hawaii scenery will be a terrific combination!!Alec Baldwin would be OK as McGarrett, but I'd go with Kevin Costner. Or how about moving it into present time so James MacArthur could have a part...I could see Paul Newman in the lead. If not, I could see Jason Gedrick as Danny.

I am surprised that no mention of any Hawaiian thespians to play roles in the new 5-O can be found in this guestbook! It is the new era and it is time for the white man to give it up and let a HAWAIIAN run 5-O! I can'think of any top Hawaiian Leading Men off the top of my head but, there's got to be some out there, who would be delighted to play the Boss of 5-O. My secret desire is for Chris Carter to produce the New 5-O TV Series, but to make it an international show, just like the old days, to capitilize on Rupert Murdoch's International TV Holdings. (X-Files meets 5-O, groovy?) ALec Baldwin is a natural for a new McG, he's a New Yorker and hot-headed, just like Jack Lord. From his comedy skits of SNL, I will attest that Mr. Baldwin does have moral values, so that shouldn't be a problem. But the fact of the matter is, Litto already has a script and no amount of bantering from this corner is going to change anything. I'm strongly opposed to McG having a girlfriend, "NO BROADS, ABSOLUTELY NOT" b/c I hate to see McG get soft and besides, I despise the "openness" of today's TV charecters, they all seem to have disabilities..... (Like "Nash Bridges", for example. would somebody please tell me why his FATHER is in the show?)I really dig the the original 5-O, Jack Lord was a piece of work and the scenery, music & stories were the TOPS. However, its soon to be the new millenia and McG's world is no mo. I would like to see a Hawaiian as the Lead charecter, b/c it would be Ethically right & I bet JL would be smiling from the Grave if a young Al Harrington type was the "new boss." Aloha

After reading all the suggestions in the postings here, I think Mr. Litto and Mrs. Rose Freeman should go ahead and make the film the way they want to. I'm sure they know what they want for the film and I think they should have all new well known actors in the film. I think that the actors from the series should be remembered for their roles in the series. Let others do the film and I think it is time for a female Hawaiian governor!
