I just saw the movie "Thirteen Days". Prior to seeing this movie I never could think of an actor who could fill Jack Lords shoes (Alec Baldwin, perhaps). I nominate Bruce Greenwood for the role of Steve McGarrett. He was great in "Thirteen Days" and, since I have always noticed similarities between JFK and Jack Lord in their appearance and bearing, he would be a very good choice. I hope a Five-O gets made. If it does, please keep the music exactly as it was in the original show. No remixes! Also, the movie should follow the format of the opening credits of the show. Just don't get silly or stupid with the format of the show. Thanks...Scott Aloha, OR

I watched Hawaii 50 from the first show to the last and now reruns when I can get them. I would love to see the movie but not with Keanu Reeves. I would love to have A screen saver of the Hawaii 50 wave if one is out there.

I think that Hawaii 5-0 is awesome. Jack Lord was totally the best for McGarrett's part in the show. My mom introduced me to it a couple years ago. I love the show and I hope that some day I can meet Mr. MacArthur. As McGarret used to say: "Book 'em Danno!"

Here are the lyrics to the Hawaii Five-0 tribute song by Radio Birdman (the song is available on napster, for those interested, but be warned, it is high energy - thanks for the info, Joe!) ALOHA STEVE AND DANNO (D.TEK/R.YOUNGER/M.STEVENS) McGarrett's on the line to Danno We gotta pick up this guy Put out an APB Not much time to tell you why Governor says it's top priority Washington says so too Tell Chin to get here fast 5-0 is on the move Chorus: "Steve I want to say thank you For all you've done for me My night is dark and empty When you're not on TV" There's an agent in the field I want to have him tailed He's been staying at the Hilton Yeah should be staying in the gaol He's working for the KGB And here's his dossier Those Reds won't be happy Till this guy gets his way Chorus Dark spectre of espionage Hangs over fair Hawaii McGarrett's one cool guy The guilty will not go free Steve and Danno they made the scene The agent had done his deed Caught with a stiff and a silenced gun Said Book him Danno Murder One

I think the best actor to play McGarret would be... Steven Sagel, but without the karate. Just think about it who out there has more respect for Asian and Pacific cultures than he does, and as far as his demeanor it is the same as the real thing. Actually, I have had this idea for a few years and was wishing that the movie would have been made before Jack Lord died, my idea was from him to come back in the role of the govenor.

I know this is a 5-0 site and what a show, but I'm named after the Stoney Burke character Jack played and would love to actually see an episode. My grandmother named me while still in the hospital and I'm 30 now. Any help would be great. E-mail me at email@example.com.

Does anyone out there know that there is a tribute song to Hawaii Five-0 by 1970's Australian surf-punk band, Radio Birdman? Titled "Aloha Steve & Danno", the song appears on the album "Radios Appear" (1976), with a very cool guitar solo that imitates the Five-0 theme song. (The chorus goes: "Steve, I wanna say Thankyou, for all you've done for me, my nights are dark and empty, when you're not on TV!") Check it out, everybody!

Has anyone heard anything about Five-O coming to Nick at Nite's TV Land?
Randleman, NC USA - Friday, January 19, 2001 at 20:03:49 (PST)
I would like to see Bruce Willis play McGarrett and Matt Damon play Dano if the movie ever gets off the ground. There's no doubt that five-o's theme song is the greatest tv theme song of all time!

I think Michael Douglas would be a great Steve McGarrett with Brad Pitt as Danno. That would be a great combination. I also would like to see the original actors play in the movie too i.e. James MacArthur, Kam Fong, Zulu.

I've spent way too much time today exploring this web site (my first visit), but I'm currently working in Italy and was feeling homesick. Thanks and congratulations to Mike, Matt and all who have contributed -- it's extremely thorough and entertaining. I've been a "Five-O" fan since seeing the last original episodes in prime time as a kid. I grew up in Boston, and years ago used to watch it at 3 p.m. on WBZ/Ch. 4 until it was replaced by (egad) "Santa Barbara." As noted by a web site visitor from Somerville, MA it's now being shown in the Boston area weekdays at noon on WHUB/Ch. 66, having been off the air since WABU/Ch. 68 was bought by PAX-TV in early 1999. I read with interest about the abortive effort to bring the series back to TV in 1997 with Gary Busey and Russell Wong (and the estimable James MacArthur as Governor Williams), but with Stephen J. Cannell as producer would we really have enjoyed the results? The movie seems to be a more interesting alternative, and even if it's awful there only has to be one of them floating around. I agree with another guest who suggested Quentin Tarantino as director -- he would certainly bring some vitality and kinetic energy to the proceedings, and judging by his fascination with all things '70s it'd be just his cup of tea. Other (far-fetched) nominees on my A-list would include Steven Soderbergh, Guy Ritchie, Michael Mann, or even John Frankenheimer. As for stars, I just don't think Keanu Reeves has the chops to play McGarrett. I picture someone older in that role. Perhaps Val Kilmer or George Clooney? Or even Harvey Keitel? One last thought for Mike to ponder...perhaps a list of actors who appeared in both "Five-O" and its Hawaii-based successor, "Magnum, P.I."? Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Were actual lyrics ever penned to the Hawaii 5-0 theme written by Mort Stevens ? If so did anyone ever record it ?
dallas, tx usa - Thursday, January 18, 2001 at 00:44:50 (PST)
Hey Judy. I could handle Chris O'Donnell as Danno. Good choice. BUT if Keanu is the best they can do, I second your motion for no movie at all. Maybe Columbia House will get more episodes added to their collection and we can all just watch the REAL THING. Mahalo and let's keep the comments coming.
Randleman, NC USA - Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at 22:01:44 (PST)
I'd like to add some comments to those of John and Paul re: the movie: First, I still would rather they DIDN'T make the movie...I think its better left alone. But, Hollywoood and the opportunity for grabbing a buck at the expense of a reputation, will over-ride that, and I'm sure it will get made. So, that leaves us with hoping for the best in a cast. I have thought about it since reading the comments below and I'm not so sure that Keanu Reeves wouldn't be a good choice for McGarrett. I mean, all of his past roles haven't been great, but then what performer has a perfect track record. And if you look at some of his characters...like Jack Traven in Speed, or even Neo in Matrix, there is a McGarrett-like quality in them...strong, and caring but ready to go the distance against the bad guy. Plus, he's the right physical appearance. I think he's quite capable of being Steve McGarrett without trying to be Jack Lord too, and that is my biggest fear in this whole (potential) production. As for Danno, well there is no other James McArthut either, but what about Chris O'Donnell? Again, fits the role in presentation (both physically and performance-wise) without being overstated. Having said all that, I still firmly believe its better left alone and just give us a never-ending supply of re-runs! Of course, I'm old and set in my ways...!

This is in response to John in California. I don't mean to put you down for your choice of Keanu Reeves as McGarrett, but have you ever SEEN a Five-O episode? If you have, then it should be very obvious that Keanu Reeves couldn't even play a dead body well, much less a role that was perfected by Jack Lord. I don't think I'm alone in my opinion. I would encourage all other fans to also voice their thoughts on the matter. Now for Leonardo Dicaprio. Please. I'm not even going to touch that one. James Macarthur, WHERE ARE YOU?! I am looking forward to the Big Screen version, but please no Reeves or Dicaprio. Mahalo
Randleman, NC USA - Friday, January 12, 2001 at 12:27:57 (PST)
I can only suggest people for two leads: McGarrett & Danno. For McGarrett, I'd suggest Keanu Reeves. For Danno, believe it or not, Leonardo DiCaprio. Just a thought.

There hasn't been much discussion of who should DIRECT the 5-0 Film so I will weigh in with my two cents on the matter. Quentin Tarantino is my choice to direct the film. I believe he would capture the vision of the show better than any other director around. His film "Reservoir Dogs" is a throwback to 70's cinema which 5-0 was on the cutting edge of back in 1968. Mr. Tarantino has already proven himself in directing crime movies so his credentials are in order. The more I watch 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year Eps the more convinced I become that QT was a big 5-0 fan. I also think he could interject contemporary humor into the film but still pay homage to its roots. I'd have no problem handing over a $100 million dollar budget to Mr. Tarantino.
