I wasn't sure if Hawaii Five 0 would have a web site much less season sets, thanks to whomever started this :)

Great news on the movie... I always chuckled in the opening credits with "and Kam Phong as Chin Ho"... I'm sorry, but what's the difference? "and John Smith as Chuck Jones"... I just thought they should have used this actor's real name.

Hey there fellow Five-O fans - I just finished watching Season 3 first time and all I can say is wow! This clearly was when the show was at its best. My personal fave: "Beautiful Screamer". James MacArthur, if you read this post - bravo! An awesome performance! First, the emotion that Danno shows when his girlfriend is murdered, and Steve & Chin try in vain to comfort him - and then, when he is questioning the suspect, and mouths off to him, Danno just loses it and attacks the guy! The super slow-mo effect is perfect. (Routine now, but for 1970, this was ground-breaking!) "Over Fify, Steal"... I laughed out loud! I don't know about the "Force of Waves" thing here so I'll stay out of that... Only complaint I have: where are the "next" previews for "The Ransom", "Over Fifty", and the three two-parters? Did they not record previews for those back then or what? I like playing them first, then the episodes. And, some other 'special features' like maybe some original CBS network promos would be nice. But all in all, the set is great. "Next: Season 4. Be here. Aloha."

I am loving all 3 seasons on DVD so far. I don't know about the "Force of Waves" controversy--frankly I don't remember the scene you guys are describing, but that's not to say it didn't happen--but overall I'm very pleased with the shows. The picture is so fine you can see the stitching in the guys' suits and shirts! Love it! The color quality is excellent (I had the VHS series from Columbia House years ago, and the color on those wasn't consistent at all), the sound is great, and from what I can recall of the zillion times I've watched the episodes through the years, I'm not really seeing any edits. My big test was on "Over Fifty?Steal" at the beginning, after Hume Cronyn (marvelous in that role!) has robbed the jewelry store and the boys are dusting for prints, Che Fong announces that there's "one big fat thumbprint" on the binocular tripod. In the syndicated episode and on the VHS version this was always omitted. But it's on the DVD. I'm looking forward to Season 4, but don't know if I'll buy any after that. The series (and frankly, Jack Lord's looks)began to go downhill in terms of script quality after that. Although the Vashon trilogy is in Season 5, so...whatever. Overall, the DVDs are fabulous, and I'm in Five-0 heaven! And for the record, for those of you not fortunate enough to have visited Hawaii yet, it's even more gorgeous in real life than it is on the show. Unbelievable, and truly paradise. Aloha!

All season one episodes can now be viewed online for free at http://www.cbs.com/classics/hawaii_five_0 - but with commercials! [The address is actually http://www.cbs.com/classics/hawaii_five_0/video/video.php and it only seems to work for people in the USA. - MQ]

Love the show! It went off the air when I was 14. I have seasons 1-3 on dvd. It's kind of funny looking back as the Miranda law was only 2 years old when the series began. They kick down a lot of doors without warrants in this program.

I managed to get a copy of the missing DVD episode Bored She Hung Herself and while I am disappointed that it was left out of the DVD set by CBS at the same time it seems like one of the worst written and acted episodes ever on 5-0.

"The Second Season" can mean only one thing ... "The Second Season". I'm very disappointed the dvd box is as close to false advertising as you can get. It should have said "Hawaii Five-0: 24 Second Season Episodes" if they wanted to be up-front and honest with us. Quite deceptive that you need a microscope to read the fine print exception at the bottom of the back of the box. Honestly, I don't see why they left this one episode off (Bored, she hung herself). Is Paramount concerned with copycat killers? I don't see CSI episodes being banned, and that show is practically a "how to do it and get away with it" manual. Yet one more reason for me to buy these dvds second hand. At least one thing I can say positively about this so-called second season: they didn't release half of the season for the same price as the whole first season like they did with Gunsmoke and Rawhide. WHAT A RIP-OFF!!!!

With this FORCE OF WAVES editing issue, I just don't understand why CBS DVD does not go back to the "original" Five-0 prints to make the DVD's and just leave the episode un-cut. I still wish someone would post a web site link or an email address for CBS DVD so we can voice our concerns - thanks...

about below, yes the show often began with what I call a mini-trailer, then showed a bit of drama, then the full trailer came. Force of waves with john vernon and the green sportcar did have a ticketing scene when tv broadcast, but if they had to chop something to fit all on a dvd that would be best to cut since mcgarrett later tells the dual persona Cal about it since he blocked it out mentally. The best theme song of all, palm trees, the Illikai, great stories, intense drama, 70s cars look better than todays, what more do ya want?

You know I see more and moreof it on the DVDs now with the TV shows. It seams more and more is being cut out. Here and there. I mean we want the TV show as it is, not what they want us to see. And come on people, get real. They took oneout because the lady hung herself. You see more then that on TV all the time now. Get with it TV people, give us everything. If people do not like it, they do not have to watch it are buy it. But us Five 0 lover want it all. Right.... Bookem Dano!

MQ, thank you for responding to my comment, I don't have the tape my friend has it when Hawaii Five-O was on the air KICU TV 36 in San Jose, California in 1990. When we were watching the DVD, he said itís missing something Phil. He then said the green MG that Cal Anderson was driving, where it showed the copy pulling Cal over. I can describe the scene to its fullest. Shows Cal driving along at normal speed, he then goes through the green light but speeds up getting the cops attention, Cal Anderson then speeds up even faster, he is pulled over in a residential area by the cop. The cop gets out of the car; he notices its Cal Anderson the cop says, whatís your hurry? It was cut out of the DVD!

It's been great watching the dvd releases of the show. Even though I was born in 72, I recall the shows when they first aired. I love watching the 60's sets, cars, actors and wish I could learn more about the present day locations. I'm sure places have changed in the past 40 years. Wow, I can't believe it's been that long! I hope they bring out every season to dvd.

Regarding the Force Of Waves: My friend has it on VHS there is a scene where Cal Anderson is driving fast and is pulled over by a cop. Cal pulls out his license gives it to the officer and ask whatís the hurry. Then gives Cal Anderson the ticket and off he goes. I timed it; itís about a minute and a half long. I don't have the equipment to convert it to You Tube. But I can say it set off a red flag when I watched on DVD knowingly the scene was on Television and not on the DVD. I've watched Hawaii Five-O at least 10 to 15 times when it was in the re-run stage and I can say without a doubt that particular scene was on TV when CBS released it in 1970. Now the episode Reunion is fine that looks normal. But Force Of Waves on the other hand has been edited. If anyone has the episode of "Force of Waves" on VHS tape or lives in the San Francisco to please post it on You Tube. [I fast-scanned the entire episode from my VHS tape (which clocks in around 47:07, but I suspect it was sped up when broadcast on KVOS), and there is no scene where the cop gives Cal the ticket. The ticket is referred to when McGarrett and Cal are driving after McG gets out of the hospital, and later the cop calls McG in his office to discuss the details of giving the ticket. If you can dub this tape and send it to me, contact me through the e-mail link on the main page. - MQ] Dr. Phil Half Moon Bay, CA USA

I timed Force of Waves at 49:44 as well, and this is about a minute shorter than all the other episodes on the S3 DVDs except for Trouble in Mind which I clocked at 50:18 and F.O.B. Part II at 50:14. That would suggest that there may have been an edit, but I do not recall ever seeing the scene where Cal is pulled over -- which is not to say it does not exist. If anyone has it on VHS, maybe they could post just that scene on YouTube?

Hey Mike, Any comments on this missing scene from FORCE OF WAVES? Thanks...
Glenn
Orlando, FL USA - Thursday, February 07, 2008 at 17:28:03 (PST)
I have to disagree about there being any content edits on the S3 set. In "Force of Waves", Danno does tell McG about Cal's ticket, then later McG asks Cal, who denies getting said ticket. McG calls officer Onoe and the two have a lengthy exposition about the incident. Seems to me that it would be repetitious to show the actual ticket scene, especially since we, the audience, aren't supposed to suspect Cal as the culprit in the murders. I'd like to know *where* this alleged ticket scene was supposed to be in the episode itself. Plus, the episode runs 49:44.

I'm concerned about the edit Dr. Phil has found on S3: "Force Of Waves" - is there somebody we can write to at CBS DVD about why they are doing these things?

I really enjoyed season 1 and 2 and have just received s3 which I will watch shortly. Can't wait till all seasons are released as I enjoyed the series very much and here in Australia some of the season were not seen when the show ended so it will be good to see the show from episode 1 up to the final episode.

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS! CBS EDIT SEASON #3 Here we go again! Good old CBS did it again, they edited Force of Waves episode on disk number #2, SEASON 3. If you watch the episode Force of Waves, youíll notice that when Dan Williams mentions to Steve McGarrett in the hospital has be is being wheeled out in a wheelchair that Cal Anderson was pulled over by a police officer doing 80 miles per hour. In the original TV scene Cal Anderson was pulled over in a green MG. But when you watch the DVD of the third season it doesnít show the MG being pulled over by the police officer. CBS cut it out of the DVD. Will CBS, print all episodes like it was shown on television. Just wonder how many more they edited. I know this because Iíve watched all of Hawaii Five-O at least 5 to 10 times from 1980 to 1990 when it was in the re-runs. I even have this episode taped on a VHS tape. Does anyone know why this was edited out from the TV version? Does anyone know someone at CBS they can contact to find out why this happened?

Thank you CBS! Please keep the episodes coming. During the era of that these shows were being filmed, I was working on the Kwajalein Missile Range in the Marshall Islands, spending some amount of R&R time in Hawaii. I reminisce of the times that I could hear the Hawaii Five-O theme song wafting through the lobby of the Reef Hotel, as the show was the number one hit out there. And aside from all that, the shows, along with their good stories and great actors and staff, are a delight to watch today; over and over again. Book 'im Danno!
